Master Recyclers always ask tough questions:

  • Why are packaging companies allowed to use misleading labels?

  • How can recycling be less confusing?

  • How can we assure that the materials actually get recycled?

  • How do we know if the recycling is not causing harm in other countries or even communities here?

  • Can we provide incentives to design products that are better for the environment and people?

  • Shouldn’t producers pay their fair share of the environmental and human health costs of producing, manufacturing, and managing the end of the life of products?

  • How can the collection systems better serve underserved communities like rural and multifamily communities?

DEQ will share how the Oregon Recycling Steering Committee has developed recommendations to tackle these systemic issues and the next steps in seeing the recommendations become law. It will be important for Master Recyclers, as advocates for a sustainable and equitable recycling system, to understand these new recommendations.

This Webinar will be followed up with a discussion session for Master Recyclers to talk about what you learned, what you think, and how we might help. January 26, 6-8pm. The webinar will be recorded so you can join the discussion even if you can’t make the webinar.
