We seek an experienced field manager to lead our person-to-person residential outreach teams located in over a dozen regions across the country. These teams hold hundreds of thousands of conversations with residential and small business customers at doorsteps, events, storefront tables, and over the phone each year. Objectives vary by team and program, but typically involve educating residential customers toward actions resulting in more sustainable energy use.

This is a full time position. We have a strong preference for it to be based out of our Portland, Oregon office. Applicants desiring to live in Richmond, VA, Seattle, WA, San Francisco, CA, or other locations may be considered. The successful candidate will report to the head of our outreach & residential sales group.



  • Manage People: Manage Outreach Coordinators and the managers of Outreach Coordinators. The Outreach Coordinators, in turn, manage field teams of varying sizes. Our nationwide Outreach Associate roster typically tops 150 each year.

  • Prioritize: Uphold unimpeachably high standards for safety, customer service, adherence to client brand standards, and accuracy of environmental claims.

  • Deliver: Achieve customer enrollment targets within budgets.

  • Strategize: Work with stakeholders to plan our outreach approach & budget for ongoing programs and new business opportunities.

  • Collaborate: Integrate our person-to-person outreach tactics with each other and with digital & paper marketing tactics to maximum effect.

  • Support elegant, flawless operation: Work with the IT & outreach operations teams to continually improve our staff trainings, management processes, and data systems.

  • Go and see: Embed yourself in outreach efforts -- in person and on the phone.

  • Client interface & program management: From time to time, work directly with clients to manage outreach-focused programs.

  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.



  • A minimum of six years of experience managing large field teams in the nonprofit, political, or private sector sales worlds

  • A hunger for hitting customer enrollment targets within budget

  • Unwillingness to let that sales hunger compromise safety, customer service, and ethical management standards

  • Front-line outreach experience knocking on doors, tabling, and making & taking phone calls

  • Willingness to travel for one to five days at a time, including work on some evenings and weekends. Travel calendar will vary, averaging perhaps one trip per month with a concentration in the spring and summer.

  • Fluency in G Suite, including Google Sheets

  • Experience using CRMs as management tools

  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication

  • Demonstrated interest in the environment & energy, with expertise in those areas preferred
