About the Opportunity:
This position will spend most of their time working directly with a diverse array of businesses to help them meet regional food scraps composting and recycling requirements. The primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Help businesses reach their environmental goals by setting up food scraps composting programs, implementing food waste prevention practices, and donating excess food to local organizations.

  • Conduct in-person outreach to businesses and communicate technical information to the business owners, managers, and employees.

  • Drive a County vehicle frequently to visit businesses.

  • Track outreach and assistance in our database.

  • Work with the Green Business Coordinator and other outreach staff to develop an approach to reach underserved businesses, such as partnering with community-based organizations or utilizing other outreach strategies.

  • Assist businesses in overcoming barriers to setting up a food scraps composting program and other garbage and recycling challenges.

  • Act as a liaison between businesses, property managers, collection companies, and/or representatives from jurisdictions within the County.

  • Deliver resources, presentations, and other educational materials to businesses.

  • Collaborate with the team to develop bilingual educational materials and communications.

While this position will be allowed to work remotely 2-3 days per week, it will be required to regularly work in the office and field as necessary.

Bilingual Positions:
Designated bilingual positions require that the incumbent have knowledge of the Spanish language, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Skills in writing Spanish accurately; ability to speak Spanish fluently; and ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing are required. If you possess these skills, you are encouraged to apply. An additional $75/per pay period for bilingual skills will be paid to qualified employees. Pay periods are every two weeks.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Green Business Advisor is a working title specific to this position. This position is classified as a Program Communication and Education Specialist. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Possession of or completion of college-level training equivalent to an Associate's Degree in communication, journalism, public relations, education, education in program related area, or related fields; AND

  • One (1) year of work experience in the development, coordination, and delivery of a public information and communication or community outreach program.


Additional Licenses, Certificates, Physical Abilities and Specialty Requirements:

  • Require fluency in Spanish, which includes both written and oral proficiency.

Selection Process

  4. Panel Interview(s): The top 6 – 8 candidates will be invited to participate in a panel interview.

  5. Conditional Offer: A successful candidate will require to successfully clear the driving record check and pass both oral and written Spanish fluency assessments as a pre-employment conditions.
