This is a chance for Portland's waste-reduction community—from government, to business, to passionate individuals like you—to meet, mix, celebrate, and activate! It would be wonderful to see lots of Master Recyclers there! Together, we'll be honoring the incredible work of Senator Janeen Sollman (who is also a Master Recycler!) and learning about upcoming waste reduction legislation.

Jennifer Merrill (Class 90)

Jennifer Merrill (Class 90) deserves congratulations after reaching 30 hours of volunteering and certifying as a Master Recycler! Jennifer has gotten creative in how she shares what she learned by working her knowledge into events or locations they may not expect, like creating a display and talking about reuse and recycling while her home was part of the Foster-Powell Garden Tour, and the 2nd Annual Foster Summer Soiree. She also helped at the Mid Summer Clothing Swap at Cook Park, and created the pictured Neighborhood Recycling Station. While collecting items for recycling does not count as hours, her time creating the education and her monthly neighborhood newsletter educating about recycling does. Thank you, Jennifer!

¡Gracias, Jennifer!

Diana Velene (Class 92, in yellow) is the first of our latest course to certify as a Master Recycler! Diana got straight to work on her hours while still in the class, volunteering with mentors and staff at the Beaverton Family Resource Fair, the Beaverton Library Clothing Swap, the Community Resource Fair at Parkrose High School, and three different farmers markets (Hillsboro, Orenco Station, and Beaverton). Thank you, Diana! Can’t wait to see what you do next.
