Resource Recycling Inc., a Portland-based recycling trade publication and conference management company, is seeking a motivated leader to help us continue to strengthen our market position as a trusted source of information and networking for the North American recycling industry. 

The ideal candidate will have skills in both business development and interpersonal communication – the Business Manager will be tasked with boosting the efficiency of our operation as well as helping to manage a small staff and foster relationships with industry partners. 

This full-time salaried position reports to the company's president and works alongside the company’s managing editor and conference director to help lift the profitability of the company’s events and media products. 

The Business Manager works from the company’s office in Southeast Portland, supported by friendly employees who value work-life balance and take pride in our company’s independent nature and its efforts to bring news, analysis and connection to recycling and sustainability professionals.

The Business Manager’s duties include the following:

Business Development
-Business Analysis and Growth - Analyze company's position in the industry, marketing, sales, etc. Set goals and grow business sustainably.
-Alliance Management - Maintain and develop company's relationships with industry alliances/organizations.
-Subscription and Attendance Growth - Set goals and grow subscriptions/readers and number of conference attendees, exhibitors and sponsors.
-Advertising and Marketing Coordination and Growth - Maintain and grow advertising database, ad sales and coordination. Lead bundling-sales efforts that include print and online advertising and conference sponsorship and exhibiting opportunities. 

-Budget Management - Oversee company's financial and budgetary activities. 
-Oversee day-to-day operations.

Human Resources Management
- Analyses of staff compensation.
- Oversee staff calendar.
- Handling HR issues as they may arise.

Database Management
- Manage and grow company's internal industry category databases. 
- Oversee consolidation of company's circulation databases.

This position will be required to travel multiple times a year to various industry events. 

Knowledge of the recycling industry is not required but is a plus. Candidate should have strong computer skills, be goal oriented, be highly organized, and have strong people and negotiation skills.
