Staff Writer

Resource Recycling, a Portland-based publisher and conference company, seeks a part-time (30 hours/week), Portland-based writer to assist in producing three trade publications with print and digital components. This position will investigate, research and report on recycling and waste management news relevant to recycling businesses and organizations. The Writer/Reporter reports to the company’s Senior Editor and Editorial Director. Expertise in the recycling industry or a related environmental field is a plus, but is not required.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
-- At least two years of journalism experience
-- Ability to generate a high volume of content (around 10 stories per week, plus longer-form articles and content for print magazine departments on a monthly basis)
-- Enthusiasm for making contacts, developing sources and conducting interviews
-- Knowledge of AP style
-- Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
-- Interest and skills in social media
-- The ability to work independently and meet deadlines
-- Ability to travel to conferences and events 3-4 weeks per year (non-consecutive)
